GE14 | The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) may have in recent years stepped up the sale of land on the grounds of promoting the construction of affordable housing, but less than half of these lands were used for that purpose, claimed DAP's Lim Lip Eng.

Lim claimed out of the 64 lots of land which DBKL sold between 2014 and 2018, only 30 lots were used for affordable housing initiatives such as the Federal Territories Affordable Housing Project (Rumawip).

"A parliamentary reply said 64 lots have been sold but out of this, I counted only 30 were used for affordable housing, (while) the rest were for commercial purposes and condominiums.

"So my question to caretaker federal territories minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, were all 64 lots sold through an open tender?

"I want an answer from him before nomination day," he said during a press conference in Kepong today.

Nomination day for the 14th general election is fixed on April 28, and polling day will take place on May 9.

Lim, who is the incumbent Segambut MP and candidate for the parliamentary seat of Kepong, also complained that the parliamentary written reply given to him on the land issue lacked details.

According to the written reply, DBKL had sold a total of 424.29 acres of land for a total of RM4.28 billion.

Lim claimed a large number of units built on those lands were for the open market.

"How much were they? They can go up to RM1 million. Why the need for so many units for the open market?

"They said the sale of the land was meant for affordable housing... but only half of them were used for that purpose," he alleged.

Lim said he will consider lodging a complaint with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should Tengku Adnan fail to address the issue.
