Thousands attend funeral prayers for assassinated Palestinian lecturer

A congregation of about 2,000 people today performed funeral prayers for Palestinian lecturer and imam Fadi Mohammed al-Batsh, who was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle in Setapak on Saturday.

Fadi’s remains were taken to the Medan Idaman surau in Setapak at 1.10pm from the Hospital Selayang Forensic Unit, for family members and friends to pay their last respects.

An official from the Kuala Lumpur Mufti Office led the funeral prayer at 1.30pm.

At 2.15pm, the remains of the assassinated lecturer were carried out by several family members into a van and taken to the Kuala Lumpur Airport to be repatriated to Gaza.

The body will be flown to Cairo, Egypt on a Saudi Airlines flight this evening, and will then be transported by land to Gaza.

Fadi is survived by wife Enas Al Batsh, 31, two daughters, Doaa, six, Aseel, four and a one year-old-son Mohamad.

The electrical engineering lecturer was gunned down outside the Idaman Puteri condominium in Setapak while walking to the Medan Idaman surau for the subuh prayer at about 6am.
