GE14 | Berjasa central committee member Zainal Abidin Abd Rahman said his party has ditched Gagasan Sejahtera but PAS, which leads the coalition, insists otherwise.

"It's not true," PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan (above) told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Amid the ambiguity of Berjasa's position in Gagasan, the party is set to clash with PAS in three seats.

Both PAS and Berjasa have fielded candidates in the parliamentary seat of Cameron Highlands and the state seats of Batu Kurau and Sungai Manik.

Yesterday, Zainal claimed that Berjasa had quit Gagasan after complaining that PAS had kept all the Malay majority seats for itself.

Instead, Zainal said PAS had asked Berjasa, a Malay party, to contest in Chinese majority seats.

"I myself wanted to contest in the state seat of Batu Kurau but was asked to contest in the state seat of Aulong," he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

Aulong comprises 56 percent Chinese, 27 percent Malays and one percent Indians. In contrast, Batu Kurau comprises 89 percent Malays, eight percent Indians and three percent Chinese.

Zainal yesterday submitted his candidacy and will contest against PAS, PKR and Umno in Batu Kurau.
