GE14 | DAP's Ayer Hitam candidate Liew Chin Tong today claimed that a Johor tycoon is pouring millions into the constituency he is contesting to ensure a BN victory.
Liew said from political circles, he had learnt that the tycoon was aiding BN in the parliamentary constituencies of Ayer Hitam, Labis and Sembrong - all of which are in Johor.
"(He) is going all out and pouring large amount of financial resources. How much? We have our sources telling us," he told a press conference in Ayer Hitam this evening.
Liew claimed the total amount was in seven figures.
"I know in my area, I am not only facing MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong but also BN's national resources and business support," he said.
In contrast, Liew said Pakatan Harapan largely relied on small donations to fund its 14th general election campaign.
However, he believed that the millions of ringgit being spent to help BN cannot overcome change if that is what the people desire.
Liew said the tycoon only has one vote, like everyone else.
"I believe when people want to change, then change will happen," he said.
As such, Liew said his message for the tycoon was to "save his money".
"If there is indeed a change in government, he will also need to deal with the new government.
"So my advice is to save his money and let it be a fair fight," he said.
Wee has served Ayer Hitam for three terms.
In the last general election, he won by a relatively comfortable margin, with a 7,310-vote majority.
However, in an attempt to strike at MCA's core leadership, Liew, who is a DAP strategist, has decided to take on the uphill battle.
