GE14 | Pakatan Harapan's candidate for the Chempaka state seat in Kelantan, Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz today likened Malaysia to the Manchester United (MU) football club, and the coalition to its coach or manager, who is seeking betterment.

"For example, MU, what would the management do if the team keeps losing? It has to change the manager, the coach, and the players. When the new ones come, is it to destroy the team?

"The newbies would surely not want the team to deteriorate further, but would want to better it, to reach greater heights.

"It is the same with Harapan. We want it to be a better Malaysia, and Kelantan," he told reporters after attending an event in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, this morning.

The second child of the late PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat also said that Harapan wants to ensure that 'MU' continues to stay on top of the championship.

Nik Omar was recently thrust into the limelight after he was announced as Harapan's candidate for Chempaka, under Amanah's ticket. Amanah is a PAS splinter party and the Chempaka seat was once held by his father.

'Mother not against me'

Meanwhile, Nik Omar said his mother, Tuan Sabariah Tuan Ishak (photo below), campaigning in Chempaka for PAS, does not mean that she is going against him.

Instead, her campaigning was a democratic act, he said.

"She is not campaigning against ustaz (Nik Omar), God willing. What she is doing is in line with democratic principals, where the rakyat are given the freedom of choice.

"But I, as the son, will continue to always pray for my parents, like how others do, for their parents.

"A parent will love his/her child, no matter what the child does, even getting involved in drugs. The same goes with me, God willing," he told reporters.

He was responding to question about Tuan Sabariah's campaigning for PAS, last night, in Chempaka.

Malaysiakini reported last night that Tuan Sabariah was seen campaigning for her son's rival, Ahmad Fathan Mahmood, from PAS.

She said that she is still holding on to the message from her late husband, that there is no other party, better than PAS.

"I'm not here to give ceramah, but I was told to speak. I'm a bit nervous because I'm not used to it. I usually speak at home only.

"The election is coming soon, I think we better 'stay' with what Tok Guru had left us with. Now a lot of parties are claiming to be Islamic, to influence people.

"Lately, people also said that my family is split. I have 10 children, only one has gone to a different direction," she was quoted saying.

Asked about this particular comment, Nik Omar laughed it off, saying: "It is normal, even parliamentarians do that," he quipped.
