GE14 | Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Langkawi parliamentary seat, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, is confident of winning the seat today.

"Looks like it. (Win) by how many percent, I don't know," he told reporters at Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Melaka.

Mahathir, who is also Harapan chairperson, had previously said that the coalition has a chance of winning the election if the voter turnout percentage exceeds 85 percent.

“A Malay tsunami is what is needed. It can happen,” he had said.

He said today that based on his observation, several places had met its target percentage in terms of turnout.

"There is one place which has hit (85 percent) and the average, I feel that at this point in time, has exceeded over 70 percent. By 5pm, I think we can achieve more," he said.

Earlier this morning, Mahathir visited the polling centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Teriang Chenang Community College to see the voters turnout.

While at the college, his arrival was greeted with shouts of "Hidup Tun!" and applause by a number of supporters.

Mahathir faces incumbent Langkawi MP Nawawi Ahmad and PAS' Zubir Ahmad.
