Dr M removes controversial figures

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad instructed attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali to go on immediate leave.

MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad resigned from his position after Mahathir accused him of failing to act on the 1MDB scandal.

Police also searched all vehicles exiting the MACC headquarters.

Mahathir said the government roughly knows the location of businessperson Low Taek Jho, a central figure in the 1MDB scandal, but has yet to file an extradition request.

Treasurer-general Irwan Serigar Abdullah, who is also the 1MDB chairperson, was transferred to the Public Service Department and barred from carrying out all functions related to the Finance Ministry.

Lawyer Mohamed Hanipa Maidin, who is also Sepang MP, urged Chief Justice Mohd Raus Yusof, whose tenure was controversially extended by the previous BN government, to resign before he is sacked.

Anwar's pardon

The National Palace said the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong is satisfied with the procedure for PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim's Pardons Board hearing but the proceeding was postponed at the request of the Prime Minister's Office.

PKR veteran Syed Husin Ali questioned the delay in releasing Anwar.

The hearing will now take place one day later, on Wednesday.

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the new government should proceed with the swearing in of the ministers as Anwar would need time to recover once he is released from detention.

Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily apologised for a report claiming that PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli wanted the post of finance minister.

Mahathir said the government will wait for a report on whether DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng can be sworn in as finance minister due to an ongoing graft case, which Lim claimed was politically motivated by the previous BN administration.

Harapan state governments get cracking

Penang DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow is sworn in as the state chief minister.

Chow promises at least five new faces in the state executive council.

In Selangor, the exco line-up saw seven new faces, including Amanah's Siti Mariah Mahmud and PKR's Hee Loy Sian.

Sabah Chief Minister Mohd Shafie Apdal said his cabinet will be formed soon.

The office of the Sabah governor also declared that Musa Aman was no longer the Sabah chief minister.

Johor menteri besar Osman Sapian backtracked on his refusal to recognise and fund the state opposition after receiving brickbats, stating that the matter was not final.

Perak DAP is upset at Bersatu for recruiting former Behrang assemblyperson Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi, whose defection from PKR to Umno in 2009 brought about the collapse of the Pakatan Rakyat-led Perak government.

MIC president Dr S Subramaniam said his party will consider its options if BN fails to reform.

The Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange advanced despite experiencing the first regime change in 61 years. However, BN-linked stocks suffered.

TV3 was ordered to pay RM1.1 million to Anwar for defamation.

The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) suspended all development projects that have yet to be approved, in light of the new government taking power.

Looking ahead

Mahathir is expected to announce the new MACC chief.

Daim Zainuddin, a member of the council of eminent persons, will be meeting several economists in Kuala Lumpur.
