Pakatan Harapan de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali today met with Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to discuss state affairs.
The over hour-long meeting took place at the Istana Bukit Kayangan in Shah Alam, with Anwar departing at 11.45am.
This followed recent audiences other state rulers granted Anwar after his royal pardon and release from prison.
Anwar has met with Pahang regent Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, and Kelantan regent Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra.
According to him, today's meeting was to discuss the candidates narrowed for the Selangor menteri besar post and changes to the state government.
Azmin will be relinquishing his post after accepting a federal role as economic affairs minister.
The new menteri besar is slated to be sworn in on June 19.
"I had an audience with the Selangor sultan and I thanked (him) for the lengthy time accorded to discuss the question of Selangor and the future of Selangor.
"(We also discussed) changes to Selangor to replace the menteri besar as well as the great transitional developments in our country," Anwar told reporters after the audience.
He added that Sultan Sharafuddin also requested the new government to reinforce the Malay language, Islam as well as preserve the harmony among races in the state, as these were important.
The meeting with the ruler came four years after the Selangor menteri besar crisis that had strained the ties between the sultan and Anwar.
The slew of meetings with various rulers has raised eyebrows, and questions, if they were more than mere formalities.
However, this was dismissed by a PKR leader today, who give his assurance that there was no deeper meaning behind them.
On the matter of him not holding any official position in the new federal government, Anwar reiterated his commitment to helping Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said: "I am prepared to help the government led by Mahathir, even if I do not hold any position."
Asked about the meeting with the sultan, Azmin merely replied, "The meeting went well."
