A three-year-old girl was allegedly stabbed to death by her own uncle in an incident that took place at a house in Taman Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.
Doctors found 30 stab wounds on the victim during a preliminary examination at the Sime Darby Hospital in Desa Park City, Kuala Lumpur.
Sentul district police chief R Munusamy said the 21-year old suspect was believed to be under the influence of drugs when he committed the murder.
Munusamy said police received a distress call from the hospital about 9.45pm.
Initial investigations showed that the suspect had earlier visited the victim's family at their terrace house along Jalan Kuang Gunung.
"At that time, only three other people were in the house. The victim's grandmother, mother and her baby sister.
"The grandmother then went out, leaving only the suspect and the victim playing in the house while the mother and the baby were sleeping in a room on the upper floor.
"Half-an-hour later, the grandmother returned and found the victim unconscious and covered in a blood-stained cloth in the storeroom, while the suspect was playing with the baby on the upper floor," Munusamy said.
He said when the grandmother screamed for help, only the victim's mother came down and they realised what had happened. They took the child to the hospital with the help of a neighbour.
Munusamy said the victim's remains were transferred to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post-mortem today.
The investigation into murder is going on under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
