Umno wings get new leaders

Umno formally announced the new heads for its wings, namely Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki for Umno Youth, Noraini Ahmad for Wanita Umno and Zahida Zarik Khan for Puteri Umno.

In the Umno Youth race, blogger Papagomo made into the exco line-up while Akmal Saufi, son of the former Johor menteri besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin, was defeated.

Another casualty was acting Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's daughter Nurhidayah, who failed to make the cut into the Wanita Umno line-up.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who is vying for the position of Umno president, said the party's chief must rein in "samseng" comments by leaders.

GPS meets Mahathir

Gabungan Parti Sarawak, together with Pakatan Harapan and Warisan leaders from Sabah, met with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Bagan Serai MP Noor Azmi Ghazali quit Umno and pledged support for Mahathir, indicating his intent to join Bersatu.

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said she left it to Perak Harapan to decide whether it wants to accept Noor Azmi.

Perak PKR scoffed at Noor Azmi's bid to join Harapan, stating that he can declare his intent but there is no guarantee that he will be accepted.

Perak Harapan fired seven executive officers from state government-linked companies for alleged "excessive spending".

Siti Kasim freed

Lawyer Siti Kasim was freed after the remand application from the police was rejected by the magistrate.

Kajang police chief Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof accompanied Siti Kasim following her release and they jointly clarified the matter.

Selangor CID claimed police broke into Siti Kasim's home to rescue her 24-year-old client from possible self-harm.
