The police have identified the hiding place of Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos in Indonesia and are working closely with their Indonesian counterpart to arrest and extradite him back to Malaysia.

Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the Indonesian police are providing good cooperation in the matter.

"He's still in Indonesia, we know (certain places). There is good cooperation with the Indonesian authorities and they have agreed to assist by arresting Jamal.

"Our next course of action will be catching him and bringing him back to Malaysia," Muhyiddin told reporters after a Hari Raya function at the Bukit Aman police headquarters today.

On Sunday, Malaysiakini had reported on Jamal's constant evasion of police dragnet, and the frustration it caused the authorities.

Jamal is notorious for his various stunts - including appearing in a towel in front of the Selangor secretariat building in Shah Alam during a water crisis.

He has been on the run for over a month after fleeing from a hospital in Ampang during an out-of-court bail proceeding for a criminal charge of smashing beer bottles with a sledgehammer, outside the same building, to protest against a beer festival.

He has refused to return to turn himself into authorities, claiming that he fears for his safety as the Pakatan Harapan government was out to "get" him.

Despite being a wanted man, Jamal declared that he would be running for Umno Youth chief, and that he would turn himself in if he won.
