1MDB taskforce: We didn't freeze Pahang royalty-linked foundation

The 1MDB special taskforce has denied any role in the freezing of a bank account belonging to the Tunku Azizah Fertility Foundation (TAFF).

"The 1MDB special taskforce would like to clarify that it was not involved in the freezing of TAFF's account.

"The foundation also has nothing to do with the 1MDB investigation conducted by the special taskforce," it said in a statement today.

The statement was jointly-issued by the special taskforce members comprising Abdul Gani Patail, Abu Kassim Mohamed, Mohd Shukri Abdull and Abdul Hamid Bador.

Tunku Azizah Maimunah Iskandariah Sultan Iskandar, who founded TAFF, had on June 30 taken to Twitter to complain that her organisation's account with HSBC had been frozen.

A report that hundreds of bank accounts were frozen on suspicion of receiving 1MDB-linked funds a day prior to that had led to speculation that TAFF's account was one of them.

However, the 1MDB special taskforce today stressed that this was not the case.

"Therefore, all quarters should not associate the issue with the 1MDB investigation," it said.

Tunku Azizah last Saturday took to Twitter to make a series of posts which read: "My Tunku Azizah Fertility Foundation's HSBC account has been frozen.

"Why, why, why? I believe in transparency and accountability. This is not fair and not informed earlier. Only found out when the cheques were returned.

"Who ordered for TAFF account to be frozen? I am not angry but at least inform us and explain why".

She later clarified that HSBC had written to her in December asking that the committee members of TAFF to declare their assets but she had forgotten to reply, resulting in the freeze.
