Soon after clocking-in as the new youth and sports minister, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman extended an invite to all staff at his ministry in Putrajaya to jog with him.

This is to instil a new culture to promote a fit Malaysia, he said.

"Every morning, we will go jogging together around Putrajaya. If not, we can go after work, around 5.30pm," Syed Saddiq said as the staff cheered.

"We want to instil in all Malaysians the spirit of sportsmanship."

Clad in a white shirt and a pair of socks with Superman logo, the young minister came to work in his utilitarian Honda City.

He urged his staff to address him as "Bro", "Saddiq" or "Bro Saddiq" instead of "YB" (Yang Berhormat).

In his speech, Syed Saddiq instructed ministry staff to not entertain members from Pakatan Harapan parties or anyone claiming to be close to him when handling official matters.

"In the future, maybe some parties (may turn up) and say that they are close to me and (my deputy) Steven Sim or maybe they are from the same party as us.

"But in the chapter of integrity, we should never compromise," he said switching to a serious tone after bantering earlier with ministry staff who were present.

"I wish to note that we want to push for a new wave here and that we are here to work for the rakyat, not (for my) acquaintances or (party) leadership," he added.

"So, if anyone who comes to you and names any political party, we just say, 'Sorry, we do not accept that as there is a process to follow'," he said.

The nation's youngest-ever minister also vowed to continue with the good policies of the previous administration and not to go on a witch-hunt.

He stressed that he has no plans to taint the new administration with revenge or a witch-hunt.

"We have no ego battles. What is good we will continue, what is needed to be improved, we will do it together.

"Former minister Khairy Jamaluddin has left a good legacy for the ministry and I have big shoes to fill," he added.

Syed Saddiq said he will work together with Khairy and his predecessors in the interest of the ministry.

Earlier, in his welcoming speech, Youth and Sports Ministry secretary-general, Lokman Hakim Ali said he was told that staff from other ministries too had turned up to have a peek at the 25-year-old minister.
