The prosecution withdrew the sedition charge faced by the late Sungai Kandis assemblyperson Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei at the Shah Alam Sessions Court yesterday.

The prosecution, in a letter dated July 3 signed by solicitor-general II, Zauyah Be T Loth Khan said, they received the representation letter from Mat Shuhaimi's lawyers and decided to withdraw its case against him.

"Actually, we have considered (withdrawing) the charge before he passed away.

"The Attorney-General's Chambers expresses condolences to Mat Shuhaimi's family," she said.

The withdrawal was recorded before Sessions Judge Mohd Sabri Ismail.

Lawyer Zaid Malek appeared for Shuhaimi.

Shuhaimi, who was then the Selangor menteri besar's political secretary, was charged with sedition in February 2011, after he posted an allegedly seditious article on the appointment of Mohd Khusrin Munawi as the Selangor state secretary, on his blog.

He was alleged to have committed the offence at Pusat Khidmat Rakyat in Shah Alam, on Dec 30, 2010.

Mat Shuhaimi died on July 2 due to lymphoma, paving way for the first by-election after the May 9 general election.
