Johari Abdul has confirmed he will contest for the position of PKR vice-president at the upcoming party elections.

The Sungai Petani MP said the decision was made after taking into account the party's "stable" condition following Pakatan Harapan's win in the 14th general election.

"If you ask whether I will contest, yes I will because as a former chairperson of the party's central committee, I want to ensure the party's journey continues smoothly.

"Now that GE14 is over, I want to contest to keep the reform going. God willing, if I become the vice-president (with other friends), we will strive to get the reform movement going until Malaysia reaches a level we all can be proud of.

“I think there is still much room for us to develop (the party)," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Johari, who is former PKR parliamentary whip, also said he sees the party de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim as a worthy candidate for PKR president.

He recalled that he was one of those who, with Anwar, established PKR during the reformasi period.

Johari, however, played coy when asked who deserved to be PKR deputy president.

He said he had his own preference for this and would reveal it later.

"Maybe two or three people will contest for the post. I have my own choice which I will reveal later but the president must be Anwar," he said.
