Malaysiakini received a courtesy visit from Guo Yezhou, the vice-minister of the Communist Party of China's International Department, at its Petaling Jaya office this evening.

Guo was received by Malaysiakini's editor-in-chief Steven Gan and CEO Premesh Chandran at 4.30pm.

The vice-minister and his delegation met the news portal’s editors for about an hour to understand the current media landscape and the political dynamics in Malaysia.

In an opinion piece on his visit to Malaysia, Guo said he aimed to promote friendly exchange and build stronger relations between the two countries.

Yesterday, Guo met with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya.

He was joined by Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah and Chinese ambassador Bai Tian.

The vice-minister is also expected to meet Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail during his four-day official working visit.
