The MACC has reportedly raided three major logging companies in Sabah as well as the state’s Forestry Department, The Star Online reported today.

This was to aid investigations into logging deals involving the previous BN state government under former chief minister Musa Aman, sources within MACC told the daily.

Yesterday, the commission raided and seized documents from offices of the “big three” Sabah logging companies.

The companies, two in Sandakan and one in Tawau, are believed to have secured major logging concessions across the state.

The report added that MACC officers spent several hours yesterday searching for documents at the Forestry Department’s Sandakan headquarters.

“They were looking for certain licensing documents,” the source was quoted as saying.

Malaysiakini has contacted the MACC for comment.

Last month, the New Straits Times reported that Sabah Chief Minister Shafie Apdal had mobilised an Illegal Logging Crackdown Committee to scrutinise logging activities and enforce Forestry Enactment 1968 laws.
