Equanimity arrives in Port Klang; Najib to be charged in court

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

The superyacht Equanimity has finally docked in at Port Klang, despite protestations from the lawyers of fugitive tycoon Low Taek Jho.

1MDB has filed a suit claiming ownership of the vessel, while Jho Low maintained that the handover of the vessel to Malaysian authorities is in violation of Indonesian and US court orders.

In the meantime, lawyers appointed by the Attorney-General’s Chambers said it would take the court between six to nine months to declare it has ownership over the Equanimity, and the ship would require RM3 million per month for maintenance.

Najib questioned again, more charges today

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak had been brought in for yet another round of questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission over the SRC International case.

Sources said that Najib would face at least three charges under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 today.

After being appointed as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson, BN’s Beluran MP Ronald Kiandee said his first act would be to propose a review to allow PAC proceedings to be conducted in public.

Amid allegations of colluding with the previous opposition parties to interfere in Malaysia’s domestic politics, the Washington-based International Republican Institute (IRI) revealed that it had worked with BN parties too.

In a straw-poll, Kelantanese folk told Malaysiakini that they don’t support child marriage.
