Muhammad Shafee Abdullah has accused the prosecution of being ill-prepared and unfair towards his client, former premier Najib Abdul Razak.

He complained that the prosecution had passed the defence 355 pages of documents at the eleventh hour in CD format.

“The documents were only given today, and that too in CD format. They did not print (the documents). They are ill-prepared and unable to give the documents in a physical format.

“They also gave Najib's written statement today. All of this should have been given on the day he was charged.

“It clearly shows that the prosecution is not prepared and unfair,” he told reporters at the Jalan Duta Court Complex in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

The document is related to the four charges, which Najib had claimed trial to on July 4. The charges are linked to SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Shafee said the defence had requested for the documents three times.

“For weeks (we asked for the documents). They said the documents were prepared a long time ago, but they just handed them over today.

“So we told the judge not to be hasty in setting a trial date because we want to look at the documents first..,” he added.

Shafee said it is the accused's right to review the evidence that the prosecution has in order for him to make a defence.

This morning, Najib claimed trial to three additional charges under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
