PAS is hoping for Umno's help to reach the latter's supporters in the Seri Setia by-election, said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

This follows Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan's remarks last week that the Malay rights party would mobilise its machinery to help PAS in the by-election.

"We welcome all their efforts if they want to help the machinery reach out to Umno members because PAS doesn't have access to them.

"So if they can use their machinery to get Umno members to support PAS, the party would welcome that," Tuan Ibrahim told reporters when met in Gombak today.

However, when asked whether PAS would welcome former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak on the campaign trail, the Kubang Kerian MP replied: "We don't answer ‘ifs’. Leave it first."

The PAS-Umno collaboration first began in Sungai Kandis, where several PAS leaders openly urged their members to vote Umno.

However a preliminary analysis of results from the by-election - which was won by PKR - suggested that PAS supporters had split their votes between PKR and Umno.

Several leaders from both parties have since called for an end to the partnership.

The Seri Setia by-election will be held on Sept 8, with nominations to be filed on Aug 18.

The Seri Setia state seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyperson Shaharuddin Badaruddin on Aug 2.

It is the third by-election to be held in Selangor since the May 9 general election.
