Former youth and sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin has submitted his resignation as commander of the 508 Regiment of the Territorial Army, saying that he no longer feels "welcomed" there.
He is also seeking to be decommissioned from the rank of brigadier-general.
This followed a Twitter posting earlier in which the Rembau MP posted a picture of him submitting his resignation from the regiment to assistant commander of the reserves department, brigadier-general Zainal Abidin M Said.
"My presence in the Territorial Army and in the Malaysian Armed Forces is no longer welcomed. So, it is best if I resign," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
Khairy was appointed commander on the Territorial Army in 2014, and was promoted to brigadier-general in 2016.
