The independent body that probed sexual abuse allegations against a senior doctor in a Klang Valley hospital will submit its findings to Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad next week. 

At a press conference today, Dzulkefly offered updates on the investigation to allay public anxiety over the assaults that were allegedly perpetrated on medical officers at the hospital in question.

"I was briefed (on the status) of the public inquiry into the sexual assault. 

"What most important is, I am waiting for the independent body to write me the final report, which includes the recommended action on this case, and proposals to prevent similar cases from reoccurring," he said. 

Dzulkefly added that the findings of the independent investigative body will be submitted to the cabinet for discussion.

On July 29, a front-page report in The Star headlined "A sex predator is in the house" reported allegations that the head of the orthopaedics department in a Klang Valley government hospital had sexually harassed medical officers under his supervision.

Several house officers were quoted as saying in the report that the senior doctor would use his authority and power to target young fe­male doctors.

One spoke of how the senior doctor once attempted to unbutton her shirt and kiss her after calling her to discuss work-related matters.

He would also demand she go out drinking with him, and would touch her inappropriately when she began to get tipsy. He also threatened to fail her in tests if she did not comply.

All victims who faced violence or harassment in workplace were urged to email the Health Ministry.
