Hilman Idham, the political secretary of PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, has denied allegations by Rafizi Ramli claiming that Azmin had asked Anwar Ibrahim not to contest the party's presidency.

Hilman said while it is true that Azmin did meet Anwar in Turkey, it is impossible for the meeting to have gone as Rafizi claimed.

"Anwar in many interviews had likened Azmin as a comrade, even family. That is why Azmin was allowed to meet him.

"Thus, it is impossible as claimed by Rafizi (that Azmin asked Anwar not to contest). If Azmin had wanted to meet Anwar (for that purpose), surely Anwar would not have allowed him to come," Hilman told Malaysiakini.

He added that Rafizi should campaign for the PKR deputy presidency by letting party members know what he is offering, instead of creating lies.

Rafizi had claimed during a ceramah in Kelantan last night that Azmin asked Anwar to step aside so that he could become PKR president during the Turkey meeting.

Azmin had previously rubbished claims that he is not loyal to Anwar.

Early last month, Anwar won the PKR presidency uncontested.

The PKR party polls will take place next month, with results expected to be announced in November.
