The MACC has secured a six-day remand against two men suspected of money politics in the PKR election.

The remand was obtained from the Alor Setar Magistrate's Court this morning and will expire on Friday.

Earlier, Malaysiakini had reported that the two suspects were arrested on suspicion of soliciting bribes in relation to a PKR branch-level election in Kedah.

According to a well-placed source, the duo had asked for a bribe of RM20,000 from an aspiring contender in the election.

The suspects told the man that they had to drop his name from the list of candidates for an undisclosed reason, but that they could keep his name on the list if he paid up.

The source said the first 48-year-old suspect was detained at 12.20pm yesterday at a restaurant in Alor Setar, while the second suspect aged 46 was arrested at the Pendang toll plaza at 3.25pm the same day.

Following the arrests, the source added that MACC found and seized RM10,000 from both suspects.

Kedah MACC chief Mohd Fauzi Mohamad confirmed the arrests when contacted.

"Both suspects will be brought to the Alor Setar Magistrates’ Court for remand.

"The investigation is being conducted under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009," he said.

Section 16(a)(A) pertains to the corrupt soliciting or receiving of gratification as inducement or reward for any matter of transaction.
