Court to deliver verdict on Bekir's RM30m mutaah appeal tomorrow

The Kuala Lumpur Syariah Court of Appeal is set to deliver its verdict tomorrow on Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib's appeal against an order to pay his ex-wife Shahnaz A Majid RM30 million in mutaah (gift following divorce).

The three-member bench is also expected to deliver a decision on Shahnaz's cross-appeal over the quantum awarded to her. She is seeking to increase the quantum of the mutaah to RM100 million.

In 2016, Bekir, the son of Sarawak governor Abdul Taib Mahmud, was ordered to pay the RM30 million sum – the largest known payout for a mutaah case – by the Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court...
