Female participation in army surpasses target

Female participation in the Royal Malaysian Army has surpassed the set target of 10 percent, said its chief Ahmad Hasbullah Mohd Nawawi.

He said female personnel in the army now is 13 percent while the matter will be studied again in relation to the latest regulations.

“The previous leadership had set a 10 percent target for female personnel in the army, and now we have 13 percent female members. If we take more, we do not know where to put them. Most female army personnel are assigned communication duties rather than on the battlefield.

“We also have no female personnel serving as ranger or askar Melayu troops. We have tried to assign them in the para (infantry battalion) troop but due to their nature, it could not be done,” he said to the press after the end of a military training event in Port Dickson today.

Also present were Army deputy chief Hasagaya Abdullah and Army field commander Azizan Md Delin.
