PKR POLLS | Reports of delays to the PKR elections in several parts of Selangor today led to tense scenes involving those who turned up early to vote.

In Kuala Selangor, voting in the division was postponed after the e-voting system failed. According to PKR election committee head Rashid Din, all candidates had agreed to postpone voting in the division. 

According to Bernama, some voters began queuing up as early as 8am at the Kuala Selangor Indoor Stadium, and became angry that they could not cast their votes three hours later.

Elections for the Tanjong Karang, Ampang and Pandan divisions were also delayed, but proceeded after technical issues were overcome.

Tanjong Karang PKR division secretary Raja Shahmirulzaman Raja Badakozaman said that the MyKad readers were faulty, but polls opened at about 10am once the problem was resolved.

Voting for the Ampang division was held at 10.50am after being held up for 50 minutes.

Ampang PKR division chief Zuraida Kamaruddin (photo) said the tablet computers used for the election had to be reconfigured, which caused the delays.

She told Malaysiakini that there was simmering discontent among voters who had to wait, but that it was under control.

"They are my voters. I know them. So with me here, the situation is controlled. Some are angry. I have to cool them down," she said.

Zuraida said she has made some special arrangements to make it easier for the disabled and senior citizens to vote.

Elections for the Pandan PKR division was delayed by about 40 minutes because the election committee refused to allow voters into the voting centre until Rela personnel arrived to provide security.

This led to some of the supporters of PKR deputy presidential candidate Rafizi Ramli quarrelling with committee members over the perceived lack of preparations.

One PKR member could be heard complaining that many voters had left because of the delays.

However, Voting commenced soon after the Rela personnel arrived.
