Pilah assemblyperson Mohamad Nazaruddin Sabtu (above), who was reported last week to be suffering from a mysterious illness, has been showing signs of recovery.

According to his special officer Aminuddin Mohamed Yunus, the 62-year-old Negeri Sembilan state exco in charge of arts, culture, and Malay traditions has been improving gradually although it is estimated that he will still require a prolonged recovery period.

“Alhamdulillah, with the support of family and everyone else, his situation has been improving.

“He can already speak, but not smoothly and not as clearly (as before). He still needs people (to help him communicate),” Aminuddin said when contacted by Malaysiakini today.

The PKR assemblyperson has already begun resuming his duties by attending scheduled events, he added.

When asked about reports that Mohamad Nazaruddin had been a victim of black magic, Aminuddin said he was unsure about the matter.

“I’m not sure about that but if we are basing (his diagnosis) on modern medicine, it is more about him suffering from stress.

“I also understand that the rakyat wants a representative that is always with them, but that’s the thing […] I hope the public prays for his health. (His recovery) will definitely take time,” Aminuddin said.

Traditional treatment

Previously, rumours about Mohamad Nazaruddin’s health started circling after he disappeared from public eye. It prompted speculation that he had retired, which the assemblyperson later denied.

Aminuddin had said on Oct 25 that aside from being taken to the hospital, where Mohamad Nazaruddin was diagnosed with work-related stress, the politician’s family had also taken him for traditional treatment.

It was at this traditional treatment where the family was told that Mohamad Nazaruddin could be suffering from the effects of black magic.

Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun later issued a statement announcing that Mohamad Nazaruddin was still able to carry out his duties as a state exco member.
