Anwar in no hurry to appoint PKR sec-gen, vice-presidents

PKR president Anwar Ibrahim is taking his time in deciding who will be the party’s new secretary-general and vice-presidents.
"There is no urgency as we will consult in the process. (I am) going to listen to all views," he said.
However, a decision will be made before next year, he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.
According to the PKR constitution, the president has the power to appoint two vice-presidents, five Central Leadership Council members, secretary-general, treasurer, information chief and 14 state chiefs.
The PKR polls, which were concluded earlier this month, witnessed the party's internal rift deepening between the factions of PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and Rafizi Ramli over conflicts and money politics that allegedly happened during the nine weeks of polls.
It was widely speculated that Rafizi, who lost his bid for the deputy-president post in the party polls two weeks ago, would be appointed as the new secretary-general or vice-president.
"Why Rafizi (only? There were) so many other leaders," Anwar responded.
As for the unhappiness of Sarawak leaders against Julau PKR chief Larry Sng (photo), Anwar said this is common within a political party.
"It's normal. There's a lot of unhappiness against everybody else, even against me. So, it doesn't matter," he said.
He, however, said the coalition should not just focus on PKR, but it also has to address issues of money politics in all the four component parties.
"(If) all the parties, including the party that raised the issue, were to scrutinise (for the possible practice of money politics), then I have no issue," he said.
"However, it is not right just to focus on one party. If we want to clean up money politics, which includes (looking out for those) living luxuriously and spending beyond their means, then we should look into all parties – this is the reform (we want)," he said.
On Nov 17, Bersatu secretary-general Marzuki Yahya said the party will discuss the money politics that was allegedly practised during the PKR polls.
