The number of people arrested over the Hindu temple fracas in Subang Jaya has increased to 83.
Inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said today these individuals are locals and linked to the commotion and riots at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple on Nov 26 and 27.
Yesterday, Selangor Fuzi announced that 68 people had so far been arrested to facilitate investigation into the incidents.
He added that the police could not estimate how many more would be arrested because it depended on the investigation that was being intensively conducted in Selangor.
"The number of arrests has increased to 83. This is the latest update as of 8am today. Police will continue to hunt the suspects," Fuzi said at a press conference after presenting the Diploma of Policing and Investigation to Kolej Unikop students at the Police College in Cheras.
He said police would continue to update the figure at 8am tomorrow if there's a development in the investigation.
The incidents took place last week following a dispute over the relocation of the temple resulted in the destruction of several vehicles and business premises, as well as resulting in severe injuries to a firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, who is currently being treated at the National Heart Institute.
Commenting on the use of certain laws such as the Prevention of Crime Act (Poca), Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) and the Sedition law, Fuzi said police would continue to enforce them as these laws have yet to be repealed.
