Suspects taken to Seafield temple to facilitate riot probe

Several suspects, being held in connection with the fracas at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya last week, were brought to the temple today to facilitate police investigation.

All the suspects, in lock-up uniforms, arrived at about 12.45pm in a bus, which was escorted by traffic police, and left at about 1.10pm.

A site visit by Bernama saw more than 50 police and Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) officers at the scene.

Yesterday, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said police had arrested 58 people thus far to facilitate investigation into the case.

Of the suspects, 38 are Malay, 18 Indian and two Chinese.

The fracas broke out at the temple over the relocation of the 127-year-old temple, during which firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim was seriously injured when attacked.

He is currently undergoing treatment at the National Heart Institute.

Several police officers were also injured in the incident, which also saw 23 vehicles either torched or damaged and business premises vandalised.
