MCA central committee to write to BN about coalition's dissolution

The MCA central committee will write to the BN supreme council soon, to request for a formal dissolution of the coalition.

In a statement, the committee said this was pursuant to the overwhelming resolution passed by central delegates at the party's annual general meeting, earlier this month.

"The decision to push for a resolution to dissolve the coalition was made after taking into account, the current political scenario in the country, and the views of the young, and veterans.

"The tabling and approval of the resolution is the first step taken by MCA to regain support for a political comeback, by implementing checks and prudent balances to ensure the government is highly efficient, transparent and free from corruption," read the statement.

During the AGM, MCA passed a resolution for the party to push for BN's dissolution, and the forming of a new alliance.

The call has not sat well with leaders of Umno, which is the anchor party of BN, which has been set by an exodus of component parties lawmakers, following its colossal defeat in the May 9 general election.

BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Umno president, said while respected MCA's call for BN's dissolution, the party should also "know its place", with it holding one parliamentary seat, and that too, in a Malay-majority area.

Zahid's deputy Mohamad Hasan, however, was not as diplomatic.

He outright asked MCA to leave BN instead, as the party was seemingly delaying BN's rejuvenation, he had said.
