Zahid: Efforts from within to topple BN gov't in Pahang

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi claimed that there have been efforts to topple the BN government in Pahang.

He said there were enemies within trying to convince BN assemblypersons and MPs to defect.

"I would like to remind the people of Pahang that there are enemies within. I'm not making accusations but we must be cautious.

"We must prevent our MPs and assemblypersons in Pahang from joining the other side as they have already been meeting with this person," he was quoted as saying by Umno Online.

However, Zahid did not reveal the name of the individual who is allegedly trying to get Umno’s elected representatives to defect.

Zahid claimed that meetings to this end have been organised, adding that there were witnesses.

"Therefore, we need to defend (the elected representatives) so as to ensure they remain with BN," he said.

Zahid made the revelation while officiating the Temerloh Umno retreat in Fraser Hill today.

Zahid also told the Umno members there not to worry about him.

"Whatever my decision (on my position as Umno president), I will remain with Umno as I want to see the party to continue being relevant.

"Whoever the Umno president is after this, I want to see Umno retake Putrajaya in the next general election," he said.

Pahang is one of the last two states where BN is still in power after a disastrous outing in the May 9 general election. The other state is Perlis.

BN controls 25 seats in Pahang’s 42-member legislative assembly. Harapan has nine seats while PAS has eight.
