Pahang BN is confident that its lawmakers will not turn their backs on the coalition, as cautioned by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

State BN chairperson and Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said he took note of the warning, however.

"I take note of Zahid's remark and I am confident that MPs and assemblypersons will continue to provide strong support and show loyalty to BN and Umno," he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

When officiating at the Temerloh Umno retreat in Fraser Hill yesterday, Zahid claimed that there are efforts to topple the BN government in Pahang.

He said that there were "enemies within" trying to convince MPs and assemblypersons from the coalition to defect, but did not name the individual allegedly engineering these defections.

He further claimed that meetings to this end had already been organised, with witnesses who could attest to the fact.

"Therefore, we need to defend (elected representatives) so as to ensure they remain with BN," he was quoted saying by Umno Online.

Pahang is one of the two states where BN is still in power after its disastrous showing in the May 9 general election.

BN controls 25 seats in Pahang’s 42-member legislative assembly. Harapan has nine seats, while PAS has eight.
