Approximately 2,000 Sabahans residing in the peninsula submitted their application forms to join Bersatu today.

Bersatu supreme council member Abu Bakar Yahya said all of them decided to join Bersatu as a gesture of support for Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s leadership.

“So far, 2,000 Sabahans here have unanimously pledged their support to Dr Mahathir’s leadership and are prepared to help him strengthen the country’s economy, and we are confident that the membership of Sabahans in Bersatu will increase from time to time after this,” he told reporters after receiving the application forms in Shah Alam today.

Also present was Kinabalu Bersatu chairperson Adzmi Juatan.

Abu Bakar, who is also prime minister’s political secretary, said the party had also received many new membership applications, especially from the Malays.

“However, all applications must be taken to the party’s annual general meeting for consideration before they can be approved,” he said.

Meanwhile, in Kuala Kangsar, 60 residents of Kampung Ketior, Manong, including former members of Umno, submitted their application forms to join Bersatu to Kuala Kangsar Bersatu chief Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Hamid today.

He said they decided to join Bersatu after losing confidence in Umno and wanting to help Bersatu in fighting corruption and abuse of power.

“They believe in the current leadership of the country led by the respectable Mahathir,” he added.
