Khairy queries political appointments to Johor's YPJ

BN's Rembau parliamentarian Khairy Jamaluddin has questioned yet another political appointment, this time involving two Bersatu divisional leaders that sit on the Johor Educational Foundation's (YPJ) board.
Taking to Facebook with a leaflet from an unknown source outlining YPJ's board of directors', Khairy mocked the wordings which introduced the two new directors as Bersatu grassroots leaders.
"(This is the appointment) of the new board of the Johor Educational Foundation. (But you must) at least cover up the party position words.
"Just point out that they are from 'NGO kangkung' or other (organisations). Don't even bother to cover up, no shame at all," he taunted.
In the leaflet's wording, the two new board members - Zais Mohd Akil and Karmaine Sardini - were introduced as Bersatu's Johor Baru division chief and the Tanjung Piai division chief.
Khairy later shared a screenshot of YPJ's website noting that the foundation was quick to act in deleting the duo's party posts from its website.
When contacted, Zais denied that his was a political appointment by Johore Menteri Besar Osman Sapian.
"This is not a political appointment. I was appointed because of my qualification (in the education industry)," he said.
Before Zais retired as the principal assistant director of Students Affairs for the School Divisions at the Ministry of Education, he had served for 19 years in the state's Education Department, besides heading an education institution.
"He (Khairy) never thought of the qualifications of the candidate. He has a low mentality," he said.
Zais said that he felt that his colleague Karmaine, an accredited architect, was appointed because his professional views were needed in the development of education.
Karmaine declined to comment when contacted.
Transparency poser
Besides the duo, Osman and the state executive councillor who chairs the Islamic Affairs and Education portfolio also sit on the new YPJ board.
YPJ was set up by the Johor government in the 1980s to provide student loans and scholarships to needy students.
Last week, Khairy mocked what he said were political appointments made by Rural and Regional Minister Rina Harun where two Bersatu supreme council members and a lawyer were appointed to head entities under her ministry.
Meanwhile, DAP's Ketara assemblyperson Syefura Othman, popularly known as Rara, also questioned the latest Johor appointments.
"Alahai. Such political appointments are detrimental. It is obvious. Is this in the name of transparency?" tweeted the DAP leader.
