Bersatu has shortlisted its list of candidates to contest in the Semenyih state assembly seat by-election, Muhyiddin Yassin said today.
The Bersatu president said he had received "between five and six names" that were proposed by its Hulu Langat division.
He said the candidate chosen would only be announced when the time comes, adding that it would be someone who can get the people's support.
"There had been many meetings at Bersatu level (to discuss about the candidate for Semenyih)...
"We have already received several names from the Hulu Langat division, and the list (of names) had also been scrutinised by state Bersatu leadership.
"The list had been presented to me, but I would have to refer it to (Bersatu chairperson) Dr Mahathir Mohamad to finalise it," he told reporters after a book-launching ceremony in Kuala Lumpur today.
Muhyiddin was commenting on the by-election that would take place on March 2. The election was triggered by the death of its incumbent Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, who was also from Bersatu.
On Friday, Selangor Bersatu chief Abdul Rashid Asari announced that the state Pakatan Harapan has decided to field a candidate from Bersatu for the contest.
"I believe we will field the most qualified candidate, who is young, have high education qualification, can be accepted by the people... who may be the most suitable and qualified (to contest).
"But it is still too early to announce now. We will announce at the right time," Muhyiddin said, adding that the party still has a lot of time to make the decision.

Meanwhile, at the same press conference, Muhyiddin was also asked on the intention of embattled president of the deregistered MyPPP, M Kayveas (photo), to appeal the decision by Registrar of Societies (ROS).
To this, he said that he would leave the matter to ROS.
"Because this is a decision made by ROS, I will leave it to ROS. At my level, I would not get involved."
Mr KV Ass should try his luck at Semenyih! Who knows he could make it!!
