'Superman' Hew's appointment not political, says Kok Wai
Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC) chairperson Tan Kok Wai today refuted allegations that the appointment of former DAP member Hew Kuan Yau as the council's CEO was a political appointment.
Kok Wai said Hew is no longer a member of any political party thus it was unfounded for MCA vice-president Tan Teik Cheng to make such an allegation.

Kok Wai said Hew is no longer a member of any political party thus it was unfounded for MCA vice-president Tan Teik Cheng to make such an allegation.
He also lambasted the latter for questioning Hew's capability, saying that even Teik Cheng and former MCA president Liow Tiong Lai did not have any experience when they were once appointed as the Penang Port Commission chairperson and the Transport Minister respectively.
"Hew is a man of high capability and has a high academic qualification from the Chinese University of Hong Kong which is one of the top 10 universities in Asia.
"He is also knowledgeable on China's economy and commerce as well having a proven track record in handling corporate matters.
"And Hew is not a DAP member any more. He does not belong to any political party. So do not blame him on unfounded allegations.
"He has left (DAP). Can you say that (prime minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad is an Umno member when he has left the party?" Kok Wai said when contacted today.
Kok Wai, who is also DAP chairperson, was commenting on Teik Cheng's statement questioning the decision to appoint Hew (below) as MCBC CEO effective Feb
The MCA veteran had asked why someone with a DAP background was chosen to hold the position and claimed there were many others who had better capabilities.
Kok Wai said he believed that Teik Cheng's allegations were politically motivated.
"Mahathir retired in 2003, so can you say that he was out of touch with Malaysian politics?" Kok Wai countered when asked about Teik Cheng's claim that Hew has been out of touch with the business sector.
Mahathir, who is the seventh Malaysian prime minister, had stepped down as the fourth premier in 2003 before he rejoined politics and subsequently was re-elected into Parliament last year.
"If he said (Hew is inexperienced), how could Liow Tiong Lai become the transport minister when he was the MCA president? He is a nutritionist.
"And for the same reason, Teik Cheng was appointed as the chairperson of Penang Port Commission when BN was in power.
"So, did he have any experience in managing ports? So he must apologise for being appointed to a position of which he has no knowledge of and no experience," said Kok Wai.
I juz dun think this foul mouth Hew is the right candidate. THe way he said Spratly Island belong to China showed that he is likely to place the interest of China over Malaysia. Personally I think his appointment is juz another proof of patronage politic. Minus 1point to PH
This is a very poor appointment as he is such a cowboy.
Malaysia must tap-into someone's experience and talent within than outside. MCA is irrelevant so are its talent pool and views.
