Adib inquest team visits temple riot site

INQUEST | The panel of the inquest to determine firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim's cause of death today visited the areas surrounding Seafield Sri Mahariamman Temple in Subang Jaya, where the chaos broke out last November.
The team was led by coroner Rofiah Mohamad, inquest coordinating officer Hamdan Hamzah and the legal teams for all interested parties.
The inquest team was also joined by three witnesses who had testified at the Shah Alam Coroner's Court yesterday - Subang Jaya traffic police chief Mohamad Nasir Drahman, fire truck driver Md Eliza Mohd Noor and driver of the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) van that Muhammad Adib was assigned to, Ahmad Shahril Othman.
All three of them guided the inquest team to the various locations stated in their testimonies, starting at a spot by the roadside across the temple where a second car was torched about 1am.
The fire brigade had arrived at the scene at 1.12am on Nov 27, after receiving an emergency call to put out the burning car.
Both Eliza and Shahril yesterday testified on how an angry crowd had forced their vehicles to reverse along Jalan Usaha USJ16 and eventually retreated to the closest police station, at USJ8.
The inquest also heard that Muhammad Adib was still in the EMRS van when chaos broke out, but was found to be missing after the vehicles arrived at the police station.
"So when did Muhammad Adib get out of the van?... I am very curious to find out," lawyer Syazlin Mansor was overhead asking Shahril.
However, Syazlin was reminded that the information had yet to be revealed to the inquest on its first day, yesterday.
The inquest team then proceeded to the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department in SS17 to view the parked fire truck and EMRS vehicle.
Among others, they took a closer look at the interior and exterior of the fire truck and EMRS van, both of which showed signs of damage.
The fire truck had a cracked windscreen, while the EMRS van has a door missing, which was retrieved from the scene and also taken to the fire station.
The second day of the inquest will resume at the Coroner's Court this afternoon.
