Spurned by PTPTN, Nik Aziz wants voters to teach 'arrogant' Harapan a lesson

SEMENYIH POLLS | Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) candidate for the Semenyih by-election, Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul today slammed the Pakatan Harapan government as being "too arrogant" to meet students and listen to their grouses.
This after a party representative's meeting with the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) was postponed four times.
"Frankly speaking, the government has this arrogant attitude to listen to their (students') voice because it won overwhelmingly in the past general election," he told a press conference.
Thus, he urged Semenyih voters to choose PSM to teach the government a lesson.
"If PSM wins the by-election, the government will think twice and will no longer be (so) arrogant. The voters in Semenyih need to teach (Harapan) a lesson by making sure that we win the by-election," he said.
"Why keep postponing a meeting with university students and others?" questioned the 25-year-old.
He was responding to a complaint by PSM Youth Wing Central Committee member Sharan Raj (photo below) at the same press conference earlier that the wing has failed to secure a meeting with PTPTN officials since Harapan came to power nine months ago.
According to Sharan, a scheduled meeting with the fund's official was postponed four times.
PSM used to resort to submitting memorandums and staging protests during the BN era, and it may have to resort to the same style again under Harapan-rule, since using the "right channels" (meeting officials) to voice grouses have failed, he stressed.
One of the issues PSM wants to bring up with the education fund is reducing the burden of its borrowers by abolishing the one percent annual interest rate on its loans under the Ujrah repayment scheme
PSM has been urging the government to abolish the PTPTN, and opined that the government should provide free education.
On another matter, Nik Aziz also urged the government to revive the Form Six classes in SMK Bandar Tasek Kesuma, which was abolished three years ago.
It is inconvenient for the local students to travel 15km away to the Kajang High School, he pointed out.
PTPTN is just another snake in the Harapan woodpile about which they haven’t a clue what to do. Whatever they do they will upset someone. So better they do nothing and upset everyone. Hence it’s not surprising they refuse to meet a student delegation who will likely ask difficult questions.
