Sheathe your dagger, Guan Eng will kill himself: Ex-MCA boss to new boss

Former MCA president Ling Liong Sik believes Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng will commit political suicide over the Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) issue.

Therefore, he advised current MCA chief Wee Ka Siong not to waste his time stabbing the DAP leader.

"I advised him not to scold Lim too much. Lim will 'kill himself'. When he takes out TAR UC, it will be the biggest mistake of his life.

“No need to scold him, the people will scold him," he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

However, Ling, when quizzed by a reporter, denied that he literally meant Lim would end his life.

The former MCA president was commenting on Wee's criticism of Putrajaya's move to cut funding tor TAR UC and other MCA-linked varsities.

In Budget 2019, the government slashed its funding for TAR UC by RM24.5 million, allocating just a RM5.5 million grant for the institution, which was established during Ling's tenure.

Lim said TAR UC would be eligible for a RM30 million grant if MCA cut its ties with the varsity.

Meanwhile, Ling, who was MCA president from 1986 until 2003, said TAR UC had produced "half" of the country's accredited accountants and created over 200,000 graduates.

He said by attacking TAR UC, Lim was "barking up the wrong tree."
