Anwar to push for revival of Parliamentary Services Act

"This will help strengthen the parliamentary institution. We will be meeting with the Dewan Rakyat speaker tomorrow morning to discuss the necessary steps," he said.
The Parliament Services Act 1963, which allows Parliament its own budget and to hire its own staff, was repealed in 1992.
Anwar said the legislation should be reintroduced in the spirit of Pakatan Harapan's commitment to institutional reform but noted that it must also receive an endorsement from the cabinet with follow-up action by the speaker's office.
The PKR president said he will work to expedite the process.
"If possible, we want it done as soon as possible. It's been (almost) a year (since Harapan has been in power)," he said.
On the several new parliamentary selection committees set up to deal with various issues, Anwar noted that many government officials were not yet accustomed to the new system.
He said there were some who had not received clear instructions from the respective government ministries to attend the committees' hearings.
"I hope with this explanation we can get good cooperation from them," he said.
