A fight erupted at the Pakatan Harapan command centre following news of Dr S Streram's defeat in the Rantau by-election.

Tempers flared when a PKR member from Kuala Lumpur blamed local members for the outcome, and this resulted in a shouting match where expletives were hurled.

Within minutes, the situation escalated and punches were thrown.

KiniTV reporter Daniel Anthony, who was present at the centre, was told to stop recording the scuffle and his mobile phone was snatched from his hand.

However, the situation came under control when other party members intervened and called for calm. Police were also present to help diffuse the tension.

They also ushered one of the individuals involved in the altercation, purportedly a "datuk", away from the scene.

The incident happened at around 7.30pm. When Streram arrived at 8pm, the situation had calmed down.

Those present gave Streram words of encouragement, urging him not to give up.

Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun who turned up later also apologised over the earlier fracas.

"I'm sorry," he told KiniTV's Anthony.

Mohamad tonight retained the Rantau state seat with a 4,510-vote majority.

Mohamad, who is also the Umno acting president, garnered 10,397 votes to Streram's 5,887 while independent candidates R Malar and Mohd Nor Yassin received 83 votes and 79 votes respectively.
