COA yet to decide on Najib's bid to disqualify Sri Ram

The Court of Appeal is expected to make a decision on former premier Najib Abdul Razak's bid to disqualify Gopal Sri Ram from leading the prosecution in his 1MDB cases by May 14.
Najib's appeal against the dismissal of his application to disqualify Sri Ram was heard by a panel of three judges, led by Zabariah Mohd Yusof, and also comprising Rhodzariah Bujang and Lau Bee Lan.
The hearing, which ended at 1.15pm, caused the former premier's corruption trial pertaining to SRC International Sdn Bhd at the Kuala Lumpur High Court to be postponed to 2.30pm.
On March 1 this year, High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah dismissed Najib's application to disqualify Sri Ram, the former Federal Court judge appointed by Attorney-General Tommy Thomas as senior deputy public prosecutor.
The judge found no evidence to show that Sri Ram would be biased in handling the case.
Following Sequerah's ruling, Najib's lead counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah told the court that an appeal would be filed, and that the defence would request a stay on the 1MDB-related trials pending its hearing.
On Sept 20 last year, Najib was charged with four counts under the MACC Act 2009 and 21 counts for money laundering involving 1MDB funds, amounting to RM2.28 billion.
