Slow traffic on several expressways as Raya exodus begins

Traffic flow on several major expressways was reported to be slow as at 10.30 this morning as people began to return to their respective hometowns to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

A PLUS Malaysia Bhd spokesman, when contacted, said the traffic flow was reported to be slow from Slim River heading to Sungkai, Perak.

The traffic flow is also reported to be high from Tapah heading for Gua Tempurung, Perak.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson of Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (LLM) said the traffic flow on the East Coast Expressway (LPT) 1 and LPT 2 in both directions was smooth so far.

"The traffic is slow before entering the Gombak Toll Plaza, to the Genting Sempah tunnel as well as Bukit Tinggi to Lentang,” he said.

A PLUS Malaysia Berhad spokesman said that as of 4.30 pm, traffic was very heavy from USJ in Selangor to Bandar Saujana Putra along the Elite highway.

“The situation is the same from Tapah to Gopeng while traffic is slow moving from the Menora Tunnel to Sungai Perak (on the North-South Highway),” he said.

However, traffic in either direction on the Lebuhraya Pantai Timur (LPT) 1 and LPT 2 was reported to be smooth-flowing.

"It's just that traffic is slow before the Gombak Toll Plaza and before the Bentong exit (eastbound),” a Malaysian Highway authority a spokesman said.
