There is a campaign within PAS to ensure two leaders close to president Abdul Hadi Awang are elected as vice-presidents in the party's muktamar in Kuantan later this month.
According to a source, the two are Bachok MP Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz and Terengganu MB Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
"There is a campaign to make sure that these two leaders win in the contest," the source said.
Candidates will vie for three vacant vice-president posts and positions in the central committee during the muktamar, said the source.
The source added, however, that other PAS members are opposed to Nik Abduh and Samsuri's progression.
"That's why we can see early moves to stymie Nik Abduh and Samsuri, such as with the audio clip and cartel issues.
"One side wants these two to rise, while another disagrees and wants to stop them."
The source was referring to an infamous audio clip recording featuring Nik Abduh talking about receiving money from Umno.
He initially denied that it was his voice heard in the clip, but later admitted that he lied, with consent from Hadi, about his involvement.
Hadi's son-in-law, Zahiruddin Muhammad, later defended himself from accusations that he was the one who recorded Nik Abduh's remarks and leaked the audio.
Zahiruddin then went on the offensive against a group who allegedly received funds from or who are linked to Umno, which he referred to as the "dedak cartel."
