PM ready to see PSC on appointments, Anwar says after meeting

According to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, the prime minister has agreed to meet the Parliamentary Select Committee on Major Public Appointments.
Anwar said this following his meeting with Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday, during which they discussed the appointment of Latheefa Koya as the new MACC chief commissioner.
"He did (explain why she was chosen), he told me he would do it according to the Pakatan Harapan leadership (sic).
"And he is also prepared to meet the PSC (on Major Public Appointments)," he told a press conference after chairing a PKR political bureau meeting in Petaling Jaya this evening.
Anwar stressed he supported the prime minister's decision to pick Latheefa.
Also present was PSC chairperson William Leong (photo), who told Malaysiakini that he looked forward to meeting Mahathir to clarify some “misunderstandings” the premier might have about the committee.
"We need to meet him because what he has in mind is in relation to his powers... but what our committee is doing is not taking over his power.
"He has the power to appoint, we exercise the power of oversight. So that’s the difference," he said after the press conference.
"...I think a lot of people have also misinterpreted what the PSC does.
"Everyone has got in their minds that the committee wants to take over the power of the prime minister, so that is the misunderstanding we want to clear up."
“We need cooperation, we can't do it alone," he added.
Leong did not reveal a date for the meeting with Mahathir, but said that the PSC would meet at 10am tomorrow to discuss their next course of action.
Mahathir previously said that the PSC had no force of law to check government appointments because doing so would require constitutional amendments.
