Police are investigating a Perak executive council member after his Indonesian domestic worker accused him of sexually assaulting her.
Contacted by Malaysiakini this afternoon, Bukit Aman sexual, women and children's investigations division (D11) principal assistant director Choo Lily confirmed that a report was lodged yesterday.
She said the DAP state assemblyperson is being investigated for rape and police have recorded the alleged victim's statement.
However, she declined to reveal if the alleged suspect has been summoned for questioning.
Earlier, the first-term exco member and second-term state assemblyperson told Sin Chew Daily that he is innocent.
However, the father of four declined to elaborate as the matter is being investigated by the police.
The allegation came two days before the new Perak exco line-up is sworn-in. Exco members for the state are appointed on an annual basis.
In the current line-up following the May 9, 2018 general election, DAP assemblypersons comprise five out of the 10 exco members in Perak.
The five are Wong Mei Ing, A Sivanesan, Paul Yong, Howard Lee and Abdul Aziz Bari.
Meanwhile, Perak DAP chairperson Nga Kor Ming said the party would leave it to the police to investigate the allegation.
"This is a serious allegation made and the party view the matter with grave concern.
"As a police report has been lodged, the party is of the view that no one is above the law and as such will leave it to the authorities to conduct a full investigation.
"Appropriate action will be taken depending on the outcome of the investigation by the authorities," he added in a statement.
Separately, Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the state government would likewise leave the matter to the police.
“The state government views the allegations seriously and asks all parties to give space to authorities to conduct a full investigation transparently and professionally.
“Any decision regarding the position of the administration member concerned will be decided after the police have completed their investigation,” he said.
