PKR Youth vice-chief Mohd Nazree Mohd Yunus is in hot water after issuing a statement that purportedly contradicted the party's political bureau’s position on former member Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, who had accused a senior party leader of being involved in a sex scandal.
The PKR disciplinary board issued a show-cause letter to Nazree for his June 19 statement calling for Haziq's immediate dismissal, just hours after the political bureau decided to first issue a show-cause letter to Haziq.
Haziq was eventually sacked on July 2 after the PKR political bureau found his response to the show-cause letter to be unsatisfactory.
Malaysiakini understands that the PKR disciplinary board issued the show-cause letter to Nazree on June 28 after a complaint was a lodged against him.
"The disciplinary board scrutinised the complaint and found that there was basis (for action)," a source told Malaysiakini, without revealing the identity of the complainant.
Nazree, when contacted, confirmed he had seen the show-cause letter but said he only received it via email today.
He must respond within 14 days from the date of the letter, leaving him with only three days left.
Haziq had admitted to being one of the men in a series of sex videos released last month, and claimed his partner was PKR deputy president Mohamad Azmin Ali.
Azmin had denied the allegation, calling it an attempt to end his political career.
Nazree, in his statement, said PKR Youth stood by Azmin and called for Haziq's immediate dismissal.
PKR Youth chief secretary Ahmad Syukri Ch Ab Razab had criticised Nazree after he issued the statement, stating that it did not reflect the official position of PKR Youth.
Ahmad Syukri had further stated that PKR Youth was supportive of the PKR politburo's position.
