PARLIAMENT | Following the latest sex scandal implicating Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali, a BN lawmaker has expressed concern over the privacy in hotel rooms.
Addressing the Dewan Rakyat this afternoon, Noh Omar (BN-Tanjung Karang) asked if clients could demand hotels to safeguard their privacy and rights.
"When we enter a hotel, can we request the hotel management to check our room? Because (if there is a) hidden camera, our (images and video clips) will go viral.
"When we stay in a hotel and the family's (image and video clips are) being circulated, (especially following) the homosexual case," he added, without mentioning names.
Concurring, another BN lawmaker asked if people can be naked when taking showers or baths in a hotel room.
According to former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, his alleged sexual encounter with Azmin had been recorded in the latter's hotel room in Sandakan.
Azmin has described the video, which is being investigated by the police, as slander and an attempt to ruin his political career.
Meanwhile, Shahidan Kassim (BN-Arau) also pointed out that people and their elected representatives under New Malaysia are no longer safe when they stay in hotels.
"Can you imagine someone installing cameras in washrooms and images of our wives (going viral)?" he asked.
Shahidan urged the government to take action against hotels where hidden cameras were found.
"We should not allow this to spread, we need to have CCTV detectors," he said.
Police are currently investigating a series of video clips – the first of which emerged on June 12 – which depict two men in bed.
Haziq admitted to being one of the men in the videos, and accused Azmin of being the other.
In the footage of the fourth video recorded allegedly by the hotel's CCTV, two men resembling Haziq and an aide to Azmin can be seen walking along the corridor outside the hotel rooms.
Haziq has since been sacked as senior private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, and also expelled from PKR.
